Terms of Service
The legal terms that govern your use of Unicorn Money. We've kept the structure standard so you can compare it to anything else, but tried to keep the language as plain as the law allows.
1. Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to Unicorn Money. These Terms of Service (the "Terms") form a legally binding agreement between you ("you" or "User") and Unicorn Money LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("Unicorn Money," "we," "us," or "our"), governing your access to and use of the Unicorn Money web application, mobile-installable progressive web app, mobile application for iOS, SMS interface, AI chat companion ("Una"), and related services (collectively, the "Service"), available at unicornmoney.app and my.unicornmoney.app.
By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility
To use the Service, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction);
- Reside in the United States;
- Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract;
- Not be barred from receiving the Service under applicable law.
3. Description of the Service
Unicorn Money is a personal budgeting tool designed for individuals, couples, and households. Features include, without limitation:
- Manual entry and tracking of income, bills, spending, and savings on a paycheck-cycle basis;
- SMS-based transaction logging via a Twilio-provisioned phone number;
- Conversational interaction with Una, an AI companion powered by third-party large language models (currently Anthropic's Claude);
- Shared household access between household members;
- Optional read-only bank-account linking, available on the Una+ plan, for balance reconciliation and transaction catch-up (via Plaid);
- Goal-tracking, monthly summaries, and a household activity feed.
The Service is a budgeting and organizational tool. It does not move money, hold funds, or execute transactions, and it does not provide financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Transaction data is entered manually by you or your household members, except that the optional Una+ plan lets you connect a financial account on a read-only basis (through Plaid) to compare balances and select recent transactions to log, as described in Section 3.1. Nothing is added to your records without your action.
3.1 Optional Bank Linking (Una+)
Una+ subscribers may optionally connect a financial account to the Service through our connectivity provider, Plaid Inc. ("Plaid"). This connection is read-only: it allows the Service to retrieve account balance and recent transaction information at your request so you can reconcile balances and select transactions to log. It does not allow the Service to move, transfer, or withdraw funds, and it never adds anything to your records without your action. By connecting an account, you authorize Unicorn Money and Plaid to access information from that account on your behalf, and you represent that you are authorized to grant that access. Your use of Plaid is also governed by Plaid's end-user terms and privacy policy. You may disconnect a linked account at any time; disconnection, cancellation, or lapse of your Una+ plan ends our ability to retrieve information from that account.
4. Accounts and Household Access
4.1 Account Registration
You must register an account to use most features. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep this information up to date.
4.2 Account Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at help@unicornmoney.app if you suspect unauthorized access.
4.3 Households and Shared Access
Unicorn Money supports shared household access. By inviting another person to your household, you authorize that person to view, add, edit, and delete budget data within your household. You are jointly responsible with other household members for activity within your household. We are not responsible for disputes between household members regarding shared data.
5. Subscription and Billing
5.1 Plans and Pricing
The Service is offered as a paid subscription. We currently offer two plans:
- Unicorn Money — $12 per month or $120 per year.
- Unicorn Money with Una+ — $14.99 per month or $150 per year. The Una+ plan adds optional read-only bank-account linking for balance reconciliation and transaction catch-up, as described in Section 3.1.
New accounts may start with a free trial period (currently 14 days). Current pricing, plan features, and trial terms are described on our website at unicornmoney.app and may change as provided in Section 5.4.
5.2 Billing
Paid subscriptions are billed in advance via our payment processor (Stripe) on the billing cycle you select (monthly or annual). By providing a payment method, you authorize us to charge that method for all fees due, including automatic renewal at the start of each billing cycle until you cancel. All fees are non-refundable except as required by law or as expressly stated in these Terms.
5.3 Cancellation
You may cancel your paid subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We may, at our discretion, retain your data for a reasonable period after cancellation in case you reactivate.
5.4 Changes to Pricing
We may change subscription pricing on at least thirty (30) days' notice. Continued use after the effective date of the change constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.
6. SMS Messaging Terms
By providing your mobile phone number and enrolling in SMS features, you expressly consent to receive text messages from Unicorn Money at that number, including transactional messages confirming logged transactions and account-related notifications. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies based on your usage.
You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. You may request help by replying HELP. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Consent to receive SMS messages is not a condition of any purchase.
7. AI Features ("Una")
The Service includes an AI chat companion named Una, powered by third-party large language models. AI-generated responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for your situation.
- Una does not provide financial, investment, tax, legal, or medical advice;
- You should not rely on Una's output as a substitute for professional advice;
- Conversations with Una may be processed by third-party AI providers under their own terms (see our Privacy Policy);
- We do not guarantee the accuracy, reliability, or availability of AI features.
By using AI features, you acknowledge these limitations and agree that you alone are responsible for any decisions you make based on AI-generated content.
8. Not Financial, Investment, Tax, or Legal Advice
THE SERVICE IS A BUDGETING TOOL AND IS NOT INTENDED TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL, INVESTMENT, TAX, OR LEGAL ADVICE. Nothing in the Service, including content generated by Una, monthly summaries, goal-tracking suggestions, educational videos, the "Money Manifesto", or any other in-app content, constitutes a recommendation, endorsement, or solicitation to buy, sell, or hold any security or financial product, or to take any specific financial action.
Consult a qualified professional before making financial, investment, tax, or legal decisions.
9. Your Content
9.1 Ownership
You retain all rights to the data and content you submit to the Service, including transactions, notes, household feed posts, goals, and Una chat messages (collectively, "User Content").
9.2 License to Us
You grant Unicorn Money a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, modify (for technical purposes only, such as formatting), and transmit your User Content as necessary to operate, maintain, and improve the Service. We do not sell your User Content.
9.3 Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
- Submit content that is defamatory, harassing, infringing, or otherwise unlawful;
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the Service;
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service or breach security measures;
- Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service except as expressly permitted;
- Resell or sublicense the Service without our written permission;
- Use the Service to send spam or unsolicited messages;
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation.
10. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, branding, the "Unicorn Money" name and unicorn mark, the Una AI persona, and all related content (excluding User Content), is owned by Unicorn Money LLC and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for its intended purpose. No rights are granted other than those expressly set forth in these Terms.
11. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including without limitation Supabase (data storage), Vercel (hosting), Twilio (SMS), Stripe (payments), Anthropic (AI), Plaid (financial account connectivity, for Una+ bank linking), and Resend (email). Your use of the Service is also subject to the applicable terms and privacy policies of these providers. We are not responsible for third-party services and disclaim liability for their acts or omissions to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Our handling of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, available at unicornmoney.app/privacy. Please review it carefully.
13. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY OF DATA. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from harmful components, or that data will not be lost. You use the Service at your own risk.
14. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, UNICORN MONEY LLC AND ITS OWNERS, MEMBERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, LOST GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100.00).
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Unicorn Money LLC and its owners, members, officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from (a) your User Content, (b) your use or misuse of the Service, (c) your violation of these Terms, or (d) your violation of any law or third-party right.
16. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice, including if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive (including Sections 9.2, 10, 13–15, 17, and 18) survive termination.
You may terminate by closing your account at any time.
17. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
17.1 Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
17.2 Informal Resolution
Before filing any formal claim, you agree to first contact us at legal@unicornmoney.app and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least sixty (60) days.
17.3 Binding Arbitration
Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be resolved through binding individual arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules, in Tarrant County, Texas, rather than in court, except that you may bring claims in small-claims court if eligible. The arbitrator may award only individual relief; class actions, class arbitrations, and representative actions are not permitted.
17.4 Jury Trial Waiver
TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YOU AND UNICORN MONEY EACH WAIVE THE RIGHT TO A TRIAL BY JURY.
17.5 Venue
If arbitration is found inapplicable, exclusive jurisdiction and venue lie in the state and federal courts located in Tarrant County, Texas.
18. General Provisions
18.1 Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes acceptance.
18.2 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any other policies referenced, constitute the entire agreement between you and Unicorn Money regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
18.3 Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
18.4 No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of that right or provision.
18.5 Assignment
You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
18.6 Force Majeure
We are not liable for delays or failures in performance caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
18.7 Notices
